چکیده
From the oldest times, forest has been main food, shelter and energy source, playing an essential role in development of human societies. Old stands are characterized by their long life, large heights diameters help conserving biodiversity. The surfaces occupied old have decreased lately because wood mass high value which leads to exploitation. This is furthermore coupled with climate changes, urbanization influences. These occupy a surface 128.500 ha forests from Dobrogea’s Plateau, where broad-leaved species preponderant (Quercus sp., Fraxinus ornus, Tilia tomentosa, Acer sp.). As such, present paper intends characterize Plateau management plans realized during 1993-2007. characteristics analyzed this study for older than 120 years were: location, surface, height, diameter, structure, type, soil altitude, exposition, slope consistency. Stand 100 only 4% total composed linden, brown oak pedunculate grow develop on common luvisols.

Relictual Amphibians and Old?Growth Forests
Terrestrial and aquatic herpetofauna were sampled by pitfall traps, time-constrained searches, and areaconstrained searches (stream sites only) over a three-year period to examine the importance of forest age to amphibians and reptiles. Fifty-four terrestrial and 39 aquatic sites in Douglas-fir-dominated, mixed evergreen forests were located in southwestern Oregon and northwestern California Me...

From plateau to pseudo-plateau bursting: making the transition.
Bursting electrical activity is ubiquitous in excitable cells such as neurons and many endocrine cells. The technique of fast/slow analysis, which takes advantage of time scale differences, is typically used to analyze the dynamics of bursting in mathematical models. Two classes of bursting oscillations that have been identified with this technique, plateau and pseudo-plateau bursting, are ofte...

متن کاملOld-Growth Forests: Function, Fate and Value – an Overview
Most of us, scientists and laymen alike, are deeply fascinated by old-growth forest. We travel to places like the Tongass National Forest in Alaska or the Biatowieža National Park in Poland to enjoy the sight of forests left to their own devices, with their majestic trees, intriguing structure and rare wildlife. For us, the fascination arises from a mixture of interest, aesthetic pleasure and m...
